Sessantaquattro is the historical Vermentino di Sardegna DOC wine from Poderi Parpinello winery, a white wine characterized by elegance and minerality, reserved for the restaurant and niche market. The name pays tribute to the year when Giampaolo Parpinello, a young winemaker fresh out of school from Veneto, arrived in Sardinia and embarked on his long professional career.Sessantaquattro is produced from espalier-trained vineyards located in the countryside between Alghero and Sassari, on sandy soils.
The best Vermentino grapes produced by the winery are carefully hand-picked at perfect ripeness and swiftly transported to the cellar. There, they undergo white vinification, with cold maceration of the skins in the must and subsequent alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperatures for fifteen days in stainless steel containers.Once alcoholic fermentation is complete, Sessantaquattro ages in stainless steel for a few more months, in contact with its own noble lees, before the final refinement in glass. In the glass, Sessantaquattro presents a beautiful, bright straw yellow color with subtle greenish reflections.
Characteristics: On the nose, it reveals delicate hints of white flowers, white-fleshed fruits such as Granny Smith apple and green melon, aromatic citrus peels like bergamot, medicinal herbs, and a saline note. On the palate, Sessantaquattro is a refined white wine, perfectly balanced with a lively acidity, freshness, and glyceric richness, offering a pleasant, mineral, and long-lasting sip
Pairing suggestions: Sessantaquattro is an excellent choice as an aperitif, perfectly accompanying delicious finger foods such as tuna and ricotta meatballs or Romanesco broccoli fritters. At the table, it shines best with flavorful and refined dishes like paccheri pasta with tomatoes and gurnard fish, sophisticated appetizers like fried shrimp on mango sauce, or main courses such as baked monkfish with saffron sauce and a side of potatoes.
